Me: I am an aspiring
Certified Personal Trainer and plan to be officially certified by March 2017. Some
of my talents are weightlifting, boxing, basketball, teaching nutrition and
fitness subjects, developing personal workout plans tailored to individual
needs, leading a large group of people towards a specific goal, excellent
communication skills, creative, and very personable. I have been
heavily involved with various fitness activities over the past 15 years such as
being a trained lifeguard, training for exhibition boxing matches, coaching
youth basketball, and being chosen as my squadron’s Physical Training Leader at
2 different bases. I see this business being my primary means of
income and livelihood. I will be at the fitness center about 70-80
hours per week in the beginning to ensure that the business is being ran
properly and customers are happy with the services provided. Once I
find a competent, trustworthy, and motivated manager then I may not need to be
at the fitness center as often. The business will be something that
I will really enjoy and have a desire and passion to be involved in on a
regular basis. It will also give me the psychological freedom that I
have been seeking for years by allowing me to make 100% of the decisions in my
career and day to day life.
What am I offering to customers: I am offering a
fitness center in residential areas, which will offer classes such as yoga,
palates, spin, turbo kickboxing, and callisthenic circuits that are easily
accessible to the residents of the neighborhood. There will be a
free weights and various other pieces of equipment to accommodate the needs of
those not interested in classes. Most importantly, I am offering the
type of fitness center that has not been seen in residential neighborhoods and
gives the regular working class a very accommodating option to driving several
miles to the nearest gym. In addition, temporary child care services will be
offered while residents workout. Personal training will also be
offered to the residents along with a health food and drink bar.
Who am I offering it to: The services will be directly offered Community Managers and not the
actual residents because I would have to negotiate a fair price with the housing
development in order to roll the cost of gym access into the HOA fees. The services will be offered to the residents
of housing developments in Tallahassee and later expanded to both Florida
A&M and Florida State University campuses to accommodate the needs of
college students that can not afford the typical gym membership. These
services will be rolled into the HOA fees and the other amenities such as
personal training and the products served at the health food and drink bar will
be an additional charge.
Why do they care: Potential customers care because most people are
concerned about their health but either they don’t have the time to workout due
to a gym not being within a reasonable distance or they just don’t know how to
reach their personal fitness goals. They
also care because our main focus is the individual to not only help them meet
their fitness goals while also building a sense of community and trust amongst
one another on a level that most businesses will not explore.
What are my core competencies: The core competencies
that I envision my business to have is to be flexible, ethically sound, result-oriented,
thorough, creative and innovative, empowering to our customers, and building a
sense of community amongst the residents.
Overall,
I feel that all of these elements compliment one another because the
commonality is empowerment and education to become more physically fit which
leads to a better mental well-being. My
niche service is the ultimate care, concern, and empowerment of consumer’s health. My core competencies embody the
characteristics of a gym that focuses on consummate care to residents while exceeding
their fitness goals. The one portion of
my business idea that may be “out-of-joint” with the others is my narrow target
market. I think I should broaden my
target market to really focus on the idea of building a sense of community
through fitness.
Feedback Memo: The most important feedback that I incorporated
was the considering college students that can not afford the typical gum
membership and my not know how to properly workout to meet their fitness goals. Next, someone gave feedback to direct my
focus to the Community Managers and not the residents of the community if I am
going to roll it up into the HOA fees.
My consumer would be the housing development because I would be
negotiating a fair price with the managers to have these services offered
within the community.
Hi LeTray,
ReplyDeleteIt definitely sounds like you’re very passionate about your idea. It also appears that you took feedback well and thought about how to apply the comments that you felt were valid. One criticism I have, not related to content, is that the font is a bit small which makes your blog post a bit difficult to read. Otherwise, good job!
Hello LeTray,
ReplyDeleteIt has been pretty cool to watch you develop your idea along the way. You seem to be just as passionate as you were when we started. That can be hard to do. I could really see this being a real business in the future. If you got it to be apart of the HOA fees, I think it would be a lot easier for people justify paying for the service. Keep up the good work.
I remember reading your venture earlier in the semester. I am happy to see that you are working to incorporate my suggestion into your business. You have so much knowledge and experience already in the fitness world. I know you will do excellent with this.
