My Secret Sauce

1.     5 Ways in Which I Have Unique Human Capital
a.     Care about People – I am always conscious of the way I might affect people by choosing to help or not help people.  I am very people oriented as opposed to being task driven.

b.     Military Experience – I have learned and experienced several things in the military that make me who I am today.  I make sure I am on time for almost every occasion, schedule driven, respectful to others up and down the chain of command, and learned how to handle the most difficult situations in the most professional manner and still get my point across.

c.     Calm – I am able to hold my composure in some of the most difficult situations where most people get upset or panic.

d.     Travel Experiences with Other Cultures - My experiences through travel have made me aware of different cultures, customs, and beliefs of people from various countries.  I am very sensitive to cultural differences in diverse environments.

e.     DAWIA (Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act) Contracting Level II Certification and $150K warrant – I obtained my Contracting Level II certification in 2014 which gives me the proper skills to write construction, commodity, and service contracts.  Also, I can contractually obligate the Government to any contractual agreement up to $150K.

2.     Interview Summaries
a.     Tracy – He explained that I was very passionate and some things would make me either very upset or happy.  Also, he pointed out that I have a great personality and get along with everybody which will benefit greatly in the business world.

b.     Faith – She noted that I am am able to influence other people through my character by doing everything with a purpose and meaning.  Also, she explained that I am very sensitive and aware of how my actions impact and make an impression upon others.

c.     Kim – She explained that I think out my plans in detail before acting upon anything and make decisions despite what anybody thinks or getting a stamp of approval from anyone.  Also, she noted that she has come to trust my decisions.

d.     Danielle – She noted that I was ambitious, motivated, self-driven, and optimistic.  Also, she noticed that I am caring of other people and sensitive to other peoples needs.

e.     Arryel – my wife pointed out that I am very honest and trustworthy.   Also, just like my father explained, she noted that I am very passionate about my beliefs.  Another important characteristic she explained was that I am very meticulous and thorough with everything I do.  Arryel further explained that I would never invest my time into anything that I do not believe in.

3.     Reflection on the Differences

The most notable difference in how I see myself and how others see me is not too much reference to my military experience during the interviews.  The reason for the difference is that I am not your typical military member because I always try to remain myself at all times and I don’t think I have changed very much since joining the military.  I think the characteristics noted by the interviewees were correct with the exception of being ambitious.  I don’t think I am ambitious enough and wish I was more driven to go after the things I want in life.  I would make one correction to the list and that would be my Contracting Certification and replaced it with a characteristic that related to my personality.

  1. I think that professional, world travel experience is a great asset. This expanded world view will no doubt bring you much success. Some people will tell you drive is innate but I don't believe it is. I feel this can also be a developed trait. What you may want to do is ask yourself "what goals have I accomplished that I initiated intentionally"? You may find you are more driven than you think, or, you may find you would like to increase your number of set goals. That is how I induced my own drive nature.

  2. I love that your travel experiences have really impacted you as a person. It seems like traveling has turned you into a well rounded person because it taught you cultural differences and influenced how you view the world. Being a caring person is also a great trait. There is nothing better than being a genuine and caring human being. Your DAWIA certification is an awesome accomplishment and very respectable to obtain! And of course, your military experience is something that is the most respectable thing and I applaud you for all you've done in your career and your future self.

  3. Hi LeTray,
You have some strong characteristics you listed for your unique human capital! Being calm in difficult situations in really a great sign of emotional intelligence, which is super important in the workforce nowadays. Not everybody is blessed with the ability to take a step back from a stressful situation and see the big picture clearly! Also, I think compassion is a really important quality. When you’re working with partners or coworkers, you have to be conscientious of your interactions with others and think of how your decisions may affect them. Good job!
