Alternative & Post-Purchase Evaluation
Two of the three interviewees felt that quality was much more important than price and style when it comes to finding their ideal fitness center. They really are dependent upon a trainer or class instructor to teach them how to meet their fitness goals so the quality of instruction given in the fitness classes at the gym is extremely important to them. Price is the second most important to them because the style of instruction given or the aesthetic style of the facility is not too important to them as long as they are seeing results in meeting their fitness goals. Arryel mentioned that distance is very important to her. If the fitness center is placed within a housing development she thinks it should be centrally located to mitigate the frustration of a fitness center being too far away from some of the residents and efficiently accommodating the needs of a select number of residents. Ira mentioned that he is more likely to join a gym that offers a variety of classes as opposed to a variety of weights and equipment. The other interviewee, Greg, was already in great shape and seemed to have a wealth of knowledge as it relates to fitness and nutrition. He thought price was much more important than quality of the fitness classes because he would be more likely to become a member at the gym if price was low and the right mix of equipment was available at the gym. All interviewees felt that actual physical results determines whether the purchase was a good idea. Negative results or difficulty making it to the gym helps determine whether the membership was a bad idea.

The location and then price would be the most important factors to me. I agree that a fitness center within a housing development should be centrally located so everyone has easier access. The biggest turn off, in my opinion, is having travel a distance to get to the gym. If it's too far out of the way, I won't make an effort to go. I'm sure many other people feel the same way. Good job analyzing the positive and negative post-purchase evaluations. Negative results definitely can lead to some buyer's remorse!
ReplyDeleteIt seems based on you interviews that in the interviewee's minds price and location were important, however, the end results were the major concern. This indicates to me that as long as there is no other gym closer, or significantly cheaper, that your gym would be the gym of choice.
ReplyDeleteI see your interviewee answers as difficult. Although we know that price and location is important, when it comes to exercise and fitness it is definitely results that people seek. For me personally I get discouraged easily and only continue working out a specific way if I look or feel better. However, if you can get results or differentiate yourself from the others you are on a good path.
ReplyDeleteHi LeTray! Great job on this assignment-- I have to agree with your interviewee's quality is definitely a great factor for me, sometimes even over price but I can also agree on distance being a factor. When picking a gym it is ideal to choose one pretty close to your apartment or house. I think that the market definitely seems a little different for males than females-- maybe that was just a coincidence with your interview. Great job overall! I hope this information helps with your product research and development.
ReplyDeleteLeTray,
ReplyDeleteI think I would agree with most of your interviewees. Quality is more important to me than price or location up to a certain point. I really only use my gym for the basketball courts, there are other courts cheaper (free) and closer to me, but paying to use better facilities and getting a better experience is always worth it to me. Until the price becomes extremely high or the gym moves too far away, I'll always keep my membership.
